Crockpot Southern Boiled Peanuts

Boiled peanuts are a popular Southern snack that is both tasty and addictive. They're quite simple to make. Simply toss everything into the crockpot/slow cooker, turn it on, and walk away. Allow the crockpot to do all of the work for you. It may take hours to prepare, but the wait is well worth it with this method of cooking. At the end, you'll get to eat properly boiled peanuts.

Ingredients

  • 2-3 Pounds Raw In-Shell Peanuts
  • 6-7 Cups Water
  • ¼ Cups Salt (your choice of salt)

Instructions

  1. Wash and rinse peanuts a few times.
  2. Drain off the water and add them into the crockpot.
  3. Add water into the crockpot. Please note that you may need to top up more water after a few hours if the water in the crockpot is low during the cooking process.
  4. Add salt and stir to mix.
  5. Cook them for 8-10 hours on HI setting or until the peanuts are softened to your desired tenderness.
  6. Turn off the crockpot and drain off the brine.
  7. Transfer the boiled peanuts to a serving bowl & enjoy.

Tips & Notes

  1. Alternatively you can cook them in an instant pot (1 hour with a 30 minutes natural pressure release) or over the stove if you don’t have a crockpot or slow cooker. *If you’re making this in an instant pot, please refer to the manufacturing setting, handling as well as before and after safety procedures.
  2. This is a classic version of southern boiled peanuts with just salt as seasoning. If desired, you can make other versions of it by adding seasonings of your choice, such as cajun, bbq, etc.
  3. You can use any kind of salt.
  4. Do check the peanuts in the crockpot occasionally and add more water if needed.
