Chinese Money Bag Dumplings
Chinese Money Bag Dumplings are meat dumplings wrapped into a shape of the ancient Chinese money bags. This appetizer or finger food normally served during the Chinese New Year celebration symbolizing wealth & prosperity.
Ingredients A:
- Wonton Wrappers
- Some cooking oil for shallow frying
- 15-18 Chives ( or more )
Ingredients B (Filling):
- 1/4 Cup Ground Pork
- 6 Medium Shrimps ( roughly chopped)
- 1 Tablespoon Scallions( chopped)
- 1.5 Tablespoons Chopped Firm Tofu
- 1 Tablespoon Jicama (chopped)
- 1 Tablespoon Carrots(chopped)
Ingredients C (Marinade):
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/8 Teaspoon Pepper
- 1/8 Teaspoon Sesame Oil
Instructions
- Combine ingredients B in a bowl. Set aside.
- Mix all the marinade ingredients C into ingredients B.
- Stir and mix until everything is well combined. Marinate the mixture in the fridge for 1 hour.
- Add chives in a bowl filled with hot water and soak for 1-2 minutes.
- Remove the chives and gently pat dry with a paper towel,set aside.
- Prepare the wonton wrappers.
- Scoop 1/2-1 teaspoon of the meat mixture on a wonton wrapper.
- Pull and bundle up all the edges of the dumpling wrapper into a money bag.
- Tie the dumpling with a chive and trim off the excess.
- Repeat the same process from step 8 to 10.
- Heat up a pan with oil at medium heat and shallow fry the dumpling in batches until golden brown for about 4-5 minutes and cooked through.
- Drain on a paper towel. Serve warm as a finger food or appetizer with your favourite dipping sauce.
