Wonton Noodle Soup
Wonton Noodle Soup is a classic noodle dish popular in Hong Kong, Thailand, Southern China, Malaysia, and Singapore, to name a few. It can be found at nearly any Chinese restaurant. In one of our earlier recipes, we made some homemade wontons and we froze some for this wonton noodle soup recipe. This wonton noodle soup is made with egg noodles in a flavorful broth with wontons, fried garlic and topped with our choice of leafy greens. Instead of bok choy, you can use your favorite choice of leafy greens, such as gai lan or choy sum.
For the wonton egg noodle:
- 1 Pack Fresh Egg Noodles (You can use dried or precooked as well)
For the homemade wonton:
- Refer to our recipe HERE
For garnishing (optional):
- 2-3 Bok Choy (You can use your choice of leafy greens)
- 2-3 Cloves Fresh Garlic
- 2 Tablespoons Cooking oil (Your choice)
- ⅛ Cup Chopped Green Onions (Optional)
To taste if necessary before serving:
- Salt/Light Soy Sauce & Pepper
Instructions:
- In a medium pot, bring a pot of water to a boil.
- When the water is ready, cook the egg noodles according to the packaging or until they reach your desired texture.
- Transfer the cooked egg noodles to a bowl of cold water to stop the cooking process.
- Drain and set the egg noodles aside for later.
- To make or prepare the wonton or wonton soup for the noodles, follow our homemade wonton soup recipe instructions HERE on how to make the flavourful wonton soup.
- Clean bok choy and blanch them in hot boiling water for three to four seconds.
- Transfer the blanched bok choy to a bowl of cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside for garnishing.
- Peel and finely chop up fresh garlic. Set aside.
- Heat up a pan/wok/mini pot/skillet with 2 tablespoons of cooking oil at medium heat.
- Add in chopped fresh garlic and fry until slightly golden brown at medium low heat. Set aside the fried garlic including the oil in a small bowl for garnishing.
- Add a generous amount of cooked egg noodles to each serving bowl (depending on how many bowls you are serving).
- Pour some wonton soup over the noodles.
- Then garnish the noodle soup with some wontons, bok choy, chopped green onions (optional, we did not add them today) and fried garlic with some of the oil.
- Dash some white pepper powder and enjoy it warm.
- If the wonton noodle soup is not salty enough for you after adding the noodles into the soup, just add some salt or light soy sauce to taste.
