Air Fried Five Spice Meat Rolls

Photo of completed Air Fried Five Spice Meat Rolls

These delicious Air-Fried Five Spice Meat Rolls are seasoned with five-spice powder and stuffed with shrimps and veggies. Then the rolls are wrapped in dried beancurd sheets, steamed, then air fried to add even more crispiness to the meat rolls. By using an air fryer to cook these meat rolls, the amount of fat and calories can be reduced as compared to deep-frying.

  • Dried beancurd sheets

Instructions

  1. Prepare ground pork in a bowl. Set aside.
  2. Prepare shrimps. Remove shell, devein and cut into small pieces. Add this into the ground pork.
  3. Add all the ingredients “A” into the shrimps and pork mixture.
  4. Mix to combine everything. Wrap the bowl with cling wrap and marinate in the fridge for 2 hours (or overnight) before use.
  5. Prepare for wrapping. Cut beancurd sheets into rectangles for wrapping. Gently wipe/pat beancurd skin on both sides with a damp cloth or paper towel.
  6. Add about two or three tablespoons of meat mixture on the beancurd sheet.
  7. Add egg wash around the edges of the sheet.
  8. Gently roll up the meat rolls and press with fingers to seal the sides.
  9. Continue the same rolling process until all the meat mixture has been used.
  10. Bring a pot of water to a boil in a steamer pot and steam the meat rolls for 12-15 minutes.
  11. Transfer the steamed meat rolls to a plate. Let them cool for 20-25 minutes before air frying.
  12. Prepare for Air frying. Lightly brush meat rolls with some Grapeseed oil/cooking oil of your choice. Transfer the meat rolls to the air fryer.
  13. Air fry the meat rolls until golden brown at 160*degree for 20 minutes in an air fryer.
  14. Air fry an additional 5 more minutes at 180*degree to crisp and brown the meat roll. You may skip this step if the meat roll is brown enough for your preferences.
  15. Place the air fried meat rolls on a paper towel.
  16. Cut into bite- sized pieces and serve warm with your choice of chili dipping sauce(optional).
  17. Prepare for steaming. Place the meat roll on a bamboo steamer or steamer pot lined with parchment paper.
